‘Pony Hills’ provides Hewitt Cattle Company with over 50,000 acres of Queensland’s superior quality fattening country and regularly delivers prime cattle to premium markets.
Situated 50 kilometres east of Injune, ‘Pony Hills’ was recently reduced from 60,000 acres to 21,000 acres following the sale of a portion to Origin Energy for gas development. This country is currently leased back to Hewitt Cattle Company, as well as ‘Spring Gully’ which joins Pony Hills to the south, and ‘Scott’s Creek’, the sold and re-named part of ‘Pony Hills.
'Pony Hills’ was originally considered for purchase by the Hewitt Family in 1982, but did not eventuate. The property proved too isolated for a number of reasons, and consisting of a largely undeveloped 60,000 acres, demanded significant financial resources for development and infrastructure.
In 1994, ‘Pony Hills’, still largely undeveloped, was placed on the market once more. For the Hewitt family, this time the asset proved an exciting challenge and suited their business growth plans, so the property was subsequently acquired.
Pony Hills’ is managed by Paul Vidler, his wife Tammy, and their two boys Zac and James. Paul is currently the company’s longest serving employee aside from family members.

‘Alpha Station’ provides Hewitt Cattle Company with 52,000 acres of highly productive improved pastures. The diverse mix of quality soil types provides a unique position of safety in differing climatic conditions, and allows the property to play an integral role in the management and fattening of cattle.
Situated 60 kilometres south of Alpha, ‘Alpha Station’ delivers some of the best weight-for-age beef production in Queensland’s grazing regions. For this reason, many might argue it is the strongest performing property in the Hewitt portfolio. Currently, ‘Alpha Station’ runs a number of breeding stocks including Fairhaven Droughtmaster females, however, the company will ultimately use it exclusively for growing and fattening dry cattle.
'Alpha Station' is managed by Brett and Mel Meyer who have recently joined the company.
